Congressmen Brett Guthrie and Bob Latta have announced a hearing titled “American Energy Dominance: Dawn of the New Nuclear Era,” scheduled for January 7, 2026. The hearing will focus on nuclear energy’s role in providing carbon-free electricity and its potential to meet energy and security needs. It will address the licensing and deployment of nuclear power, as well as the impact of recent laws and policies on industry growth.
Chairmen Guthrie and Latta emphasized that nuclear energy is crucial for delivering affordable and reliable power. They said, “This hearing will offer a chance to discuss the current state of our nuclear industry, addressing the licensing and deployment of nuclear power while examining how the implementation of recent laws and policies can support the industry growth that will be vital to meeting our energy and security needs.”
The event will take place at 10:15 AM ET in room 2123 of the Rayburn House Office Building. It is open to both the public and press, with a livestream available on energycommerce.house.gov.
Judi Greenwald, President and CEO of Nuclear Innovation Alliance, is set to testify before the committee. She brings extensive experience from various sectors including Congress, the White House, and multiple federal agencies. Her testimony will highlight new nuclear energy’s potential role in enhancing energy security and addressing climate challenges.
Greenwald’s testimony will cover several topics including recent legislative actions affecting nuclear energy, regulatory reforms by the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC), and programs within the Department of Energy (DOE). She stresses that robust oversight is needed for DOE’s initiatives like loan guarantees and reactor demonstration projects.
Key priorities for congressional action include maintaining bipartisan support for stable policy environments, ensuring adequate staffing for ambitious legislative goals, and safeguarding NRC’s regulatory integrity. These steps are seen as essential for advancing nuclear energy as a clean power source in the United States.
