Martha’s Vineyard School District sees 4.5% increase in graduation rates over 2022-23 school year

Martha’s Vineyard School District had an 88.8% graduation rate during the 2022-23 school year, 4.5% higher than the previous school year, according to the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.

There were 167 students who graduated in the 2022-23 school year, compared to 134 the year before.

Martha’s Vineyard School District and Gardner Public Schools District had the 50th lowest graduation rate in the state.

Martha’s Vineyard School District roughly covers schools within Dukes County and has a main office in Vineyard Haven.

In 2024, public schools in Massachusetts boasted a graduation rate of 90%, according to Public School Review.

However, younger students’ proficiency is still lagging behind pre-pandemic levels. NAEP results show that in 2022, less than 47% of the students were considered proficient in math and reading, with eighth-graders performing the worst, reaching only 35% proficiency in math.
