The Massachusetts Department of Transportation announced on April 2 that it will begin removing passing zones on Orleans Road and Old Harbor Road starting around April 6.

This change will involve re-striping sections of the roads from dashed lines, which allow passing, to solid lines indicating no passing. The work is scheduled to take place between 7 a.m. and 3 p.m., depending on weather conditions. Drivers are advised to expect delays, reduce speed, and use caution while traveling in the area.

The decision follows discussions by the Town’s Traffic Safety Committee, which reached out to the state transportation department regarding safety concerns along these roads. Rob Faley, Director of Public Works, said that MDOT had already been considering improvements for this area and that feedback from the committee supported their plans.

The removal of passing zones aims to improve road safety for all drivers using Orleans Road and Old Harbor Road. Local officials encourage residents and commuters to stay alert during the re-striping process.

Looking ahead, further updates may be provided as work progresses or if additional changes are planned for local traffic patterns.
