Intersection of Bridge Road and Herring Brook Road
For many years, the Town of Eastham has been receiving complaints regarding the intersection of Bridge Road and Herring Brook Road being difficult to navigate and therefore dangerous. The poor sight lines of the intersection, and some of the speeds of the vehicles traveling on Bridge Road, make it very difficult to navigate. Although we have been fortunate to have minimal crashes in this intersection, the current configuration of the intersection lends itself to what could result in serious motor vehicle crashes. Because of this, the Town of Eastham will be taking steps to mitigate some of the dangers and make the intersection safer, both in the short term and long term.
Effective sometime this week, stop signs will be added to Bridge Road on both the northbound and southbound side of the intersection. With the addition of these stop signs, the intersection will become a three-way stop. This will give drivers better sight and more time to safely navigate through the intersection. Looking further ahead, the Town of Eastham is currently studying several intersections in town for possible redesign and renovation. The intersection of Bridge Road and Herring Brook Road will be looked at to see if there is a different road configuration that could make navigating this intersection even safer.
As you navigate this area in the coming days, please be aware of the changes that are coming. Electronic signs and other devices will be used to alert motorists of the changes to the intersection.
