Edgartown School District’s student-to-teacher ratio rose by 1.1% in 2021-22 school year

The ratio of students to teachers in Edgartown School District rose by 1.1% in the 2021-22 school year, according to the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.

There were 397 students being taught by 44.6 teachers in Edgartown School District, which covers schools within Dukes County and has a main office in Vineyard Haven. That's an average of 8.9 students per teacher in the district during the 2021-22 school year.

In the previous year, Edgartown School District had 382 students and 43.6 teachers on staff.

Despite the shortage, under-representation of ethnicities among teachers was found to be a concern. The Rennie Center reported that only nine percent of teachers are people of color.

Massachusetts was ranked as the eighth best state for teachers, according to a WalletHub study.
