The ratio of students to teachers in Martha's Vineyard Charter Public School District fell by 13.7% in the 2021-22 school year, according to the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.

There were 165 students being taught by 20.2 teachers in Martha's Vineyard Charter Public School District, which covers schools within Dukes County and has a main office in West Tisbury. That's an average of 8.2 students per teacher in the district during the 2021-22 school year.

In the previous year, Martha's Vineyard Charter Public School District had 176 students and 18.5 teachers on staff.

Massachusetts was ranked as the eighth best state for teachers, according to a WalletHub study.

Despite the shortage, under-representation of ethnicities among teachers was found to be a concern. The Rennie Center reported that only nine percent of teachers are people of color.
