The ratio of students to teachers in Dennis-Yarmouth Regional School District fell by 1% in the 2021-22 school year, according to the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.

There were 2,795 students being taught by 278.3 teachers in Dennis-Yarmouth Regional School District, which covers schools within Barnstable County and has a main office in South Yarmouth. That's an average of 10 students per teacher in the district during the 2021-22 school year.

In the previous year, Dennis-Yarmouth Regional School District had 2,739 students and 271.1 teachers on staff.

Despite the shortage, under-representation of ethnicities among teachers was found to be a concern. The Rennie Center reported that only nine percent of teachers are people of color.

However, the state is facing a teacher shortage, just like the rest of the U.S. NewsNation reported that the state was offering emergency teaching licenses to educators who only had bachelor’s degrees, in an effort to get more teachers into schools.
