Up-Island Regional School District enrollment falls 0.2% in 2022-23 school year

There were 412 students enrolled in Up-Island Regional School District schools in the 2022-23 school year, 0.2% fewer than the year before, according to the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.

Of all the students welcomed in the 2022-23 school year, 51.2% identified as male and 48.8% identified themselves as female.

Up-Island Regional School District registered the 325th-largest enrollment in the state.

Up-Island Regional School District roughly covers schools within Dukes County, and has a main office in Vineyard Haven.

Students in Massachusetts are predominantly white, making up 53% of the student population in the state. Hispanic students come in second, representing over 25% of Massachusetts' student body.

However, across the state, Hispanic and Native American students suffered the highest high school dropout rates.

Under representation is also found among educators in Massachusetts. The Rennie Center reported that only 9% of teachers are people of color.
