The historic United States Coast Guard Boathouse was returned to Stage Harbor on March 24 and placed on its new foundation at 90 Bridge Street the following day.

The event marks the end of a two-decade absence for the structure, drawing crowds who gathered along the shoreline and near Mitchell River Bridge to witness its arrival and placement.

Town officials thanked Dave Dougherty and Jay Cashman for their commitment to bringing back the boathouse. They also expressed appreciation for Town Meeting voters who supported repurposing the building as a shellfish upweller, as well as project partners GEI Consultants, Inc., Pomroy Associates, and Robert B. Our Marine for their roles in making the delivery possible.

With the boathouse now in place, work will begin on renovating it into a facility that will support local shellfish operations.

The return of this historic structure is seen by many as an important step in preserving local heritage while providing new resources for community aquaculture.
