The Barnstable County Human Rights Advisory Commission (BCHRAC) has named Josie Gaynor as the 2022 Malcolm McDowell Award recipient. The award, named after human rights activist and former BCHRAC Commissioner Malcolm McDowell, comes with a $500 award.
Josie Gaynor was selected for this award because of her demonstrated leadership and initiative in collaborating with other activism clubs to further human rights causes. Some of these collaborations include working on the right to education and water for all people. Ms. Gaynor has been an active member of Nauset Regional High School’s Human Rights Academy for three years. Following graduation, Josie plans to be an elementary teacher.
Lisa Brown, advisor to Nauset High School’s Human Rights Academy, says, “Josie wants to approach her life and career with love, peace, empathy, and a deep understanding of the human psyche. Or, as Josie puts it, she wants to teach kids to love people as she does.”
