There were 427 students being taught by 49.4 teachers in Oak Bluffs School District, which covers schools within Dukes County and has a main office in Vineyard Haven. That's an average of 8.6 students per teacher in the district during the 2021-22 school year.

Despite the shortage, under-representation of ethnicities among teachers was found to be a concern. The Rennie Center reported that only nine percent of teachers are people of color.

Massachusetts has roughly one teacher for every 13 students, which is better than the national average of one teacher for every 16 students.
