The ratio of students to teachers in Martha's Vineyard School District remained unchanged in the 2021-22 school year, according to the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.

There were 706 students being taught by 76.6 teachers in Martha's Vineyard School District, which covers schools within Dukes County and has a main office in Vineyard Haven. That's an average of 9.2 students per teacher in the district during the 2021-22 school year.

In the previous year, Martha's Vineyard School District had 689 students and 74.6 teachers on staff.

Massachusetts was ranked as the eighth best state for teachers, according to a WalletHub study.

Despite the shortage, under-representation of ethnicities among teachers was found to be a concern. The Rennie Center reported that only nine percent of teachers are people of color.
